It will be my first time to visit Taiwan this Feb. What decent hotels (4 stars at least) can you recommend for a group of 3 adults, preferably near an MRT station?

I am excited to try the food there, night markets and electronics shopping!

I recommend the Grand Hyatt although the nearest MRT is quite far, at the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Station. Howard Plaza is also nice. Better still ask your travel agent the best options.

when we went there Christmas time 2010, we asked the concierge for a tour pamplet, he gave us several pamplets with some AM or PM tours or whole day tours. He however suggested a van/car rental for 8 hours, go anywhere you want. We were able to combine 3 or those tours and avoid the factory shops etc that are usually included in the regular tours. The downside was the driver didn't speak English that much. there was no problem in where to go since we told the concierge where we wanted to go and he was the one who talked to the driver. What was lacking was the tour commentary. I just googled the places we went later on.

i got a good deal from the Sony store in Ximending, but better know the prices here before buying.

I just had my very first trip ever to Taiwan...I loved it there hehe...
it was pretty cool weather too...maybe around 17? but it rained a bit for a few days...

the night market is awesome...lots of stuff to buy...i like it better than mongkok's night market...unless i just don't know where to look haha
Taiwan shopping is awesome...for those cute little things...

I also took the high speed rail to southern taiwan (kaosheng) to visit their biggest mall with the ferris wheel on top. it was nice but deserted on a weekday. But it's not really worth going to haha.

I would recommend Taiwan for cheap shopping

I stayed in Taipei International Hotel...spent around 7 to 8k per night i think...and it was a pleasant experience..with buffet breakfast every morning. The MRT was maybe 8 mins walk? and the area was pretty high end. There was a Mcdo right across and a 711 a few metres away. Although I saw a seemingly nice hotel much nearer to the MRT and I want to try that next time hehe..

which night market did you go to?

Actually, I didn't like Shilin night market. Purely clothes, not much pasalubong shopping.
