for me, that would be Odette Quesada. She sang her song beautifully, and even if remade today (like what local artist would do) it would still come out nice. But I like her versions of her song better. It was the music of my last break up

+1 she composed some of the best pop songs of the 80s, most of Kuh Ledesma & Ric segreto's hits. not to mention her own. She married Bodjie Dasig, another cool pop singer/songwriter, who wrote 'Sana Dalawa ang Puso Ko" & "Ale ,nasa langit na ba ako? (im not sure I got the title right.)

I also like Mike Hanopol, who wrote some of pinoy rock's best when he was w/ Juan De la Cruz & his own band & pop songs that he wrote for Hagibis in the 70s/80s.

let's not forget George Canseco, who wrote tons of tunes for Basil Valdez & other artists.

I worked with them in 2000-2001, and their talents deserve to still be heard in our current OPM scene...

mmm.....reviving this 2011 thread. Just to update that there are serious efforts to revive OPM, through the Philippine Popular Music Festival (sponsored by MVP companies). Out now in record bars the 2012 PhilPop album containing the 14 finalist songs composed by fresh, new talented song writers. Support OPM AND BUY the album (and please dump those stupid Beiber albums and what's her name with the weird outfits). Go Pinoy....
