okay here it is, i decided to release it under a creative commons license. download or reuse however you like.

this is a result of a midday messing around session with a keyboard. for a beginner though, i think it can already stand on its own. but what do you guys think?

you uploaded the entire garageband file, I dont think that's a wise idea. even with your creative commons license, anyone can simply use your file (tweak it) & claim it as their own. bounce the project first into some other format. & just upload an mp3, aiff or wav file.

as for the track itself, since it's an electronic tune, generally, the notes have to line up perfectly with one another. unlike other genres, anything offbeat is easily detected in electronic music. it might not be apparent right away since you used a lot of delay in the synths. try quantizing it if that's allowed in GB. unless of course, you want it that way. the melody is good, & I can see where you want to take the tune (a bit ambient or cinematic), try fiddling around with other soft synths. might give you a different feel.

thanks for the input greta, i have no idea about electronic music. just added the synth part for atmosphere. actually i was gonna remove the synth part when i was gonna submit this, rules say they only allow only western classical instruments and/or indonesian native ones. i will eventually replace the synth parts with strings/cello section. easy to do in garageband but have no idea how i'll produce the sheet music for the combined instruments.

i thought this was actually a common thing by now, putting your entire source file with an open source license online since it's been done for years with source code, even graphic files?

have no problem with people modifying the work, i'd like to see how that will turn out . i guess i'll have to trust people will be sensible and respect the license. granted, there's still a lot of ignorance about intellectual property (even among artists, at least i know some of my friends are) and/or there's a lot of opportunistic people out there, but since the work has already been exhibited publicly (it was used as a score in an mmff indie film last year) and correctly attributed(on film/online/probably on video) so I believe i have a strong claim to it (if ever i need to assert that).

if things indeed turn out not on a positive note, then I'll consider it a lesson learned. until then, I'll put my proverbial money where my mouth is.

Online collabs are pretty common yes. I should know since I've been doing those for the last 5 years. but what's shared online are still limited to mp3s and wav or aiff files, at best. the GB or master file stays with me unless somebody commissions me to do something & also pays for rights to the master file. the least you can do is at least require anyone downloading your work to register with the site where you uploaded the file. this way you can somehow track where your files are going. hope this helps.
