been looking at the new pioneer sdj 05 and sdj 08 though kinda out of my current budget.

other brands im looking at are the m-audio and yamaha... though not sure which one to go for

im looking for a speaker thats good for mixing in my room. and also do you guys know any stores where i can choose several reference speakers? my budget is roughly within 15k if possible. Thanks!

at that price point, you're looking at m-audio, alesis, and behringers. ali mall has three or four music stores that you can hop and shop in.

the better reference monitors will cost you at least 15k per speaker. with a bit more financial headroom, you can pick from krk, yamaha, focal, genelec, or the self-calibrating jbl powered monitors.

Audition studio monitors from Samson too while you're at the Behringer store. Their Resolv line is what you're after…

    drew,

why do you need a monitor? is it because you are going to record your mix or just to hear the mix?

    drew,

at 15k, you can buy a simple passive speaker pair and amp and an in-ear monitor. i'm assuming you will be using your laptop for recording. do the nonstop mix using the cheap speakers. after recording, fix the levels and/or edit using your wave editor and in-ear monitor. if you can mix via in-ear, you can do away with buying the passives.

use hi-quality materials so that the only thing you have to worry are your levels.

ali-mall is at the araneta center, quezon city.

There's a pair of secondhand NS-20m's for sale on sulit for just over 5k.

Paired up with a lil "T-Amp" should make for a nice lil home setup & should sound way sweeter than the Behringers (until you can spend more money on KRK's or something)

I used to have a t-amp with my 'ol control5's and it was bloody brilliant for under $50 too !!

I like vintage gear, so sue me

This T-Amp is very interesting, are there any stores which carry this here in Metro Manila?

I remember seeing one for sale on sulit before from an individual (at a highly inflated price too!) , but nothing since then ... there seems to be quite a few variations of the T-amp since then, nicer casing, better cooling, higher wattages available.

Ebay looks to be the best bet I think from HK or China, @ about 2k-2.5k including shipping (who knows what customs will charge though :-S)

They all use pretty much the same chips either the TA-2020 or TA-2024 and while I'd normally stay away from cheapy chinese amps, these all come from china anyhow though LOL - the TA-2024 is apparently not so good as the 2020 BTW.

The "muse m-15" seems to get decent reviews and some people have modified them for better SQ (Bigger PSU's, upgraded caps etc..)

Theres lots of DIY kits available as well if you're handy with a soldering Iron, I'd bought a kit as well but never got around to building the thing, came with almost everything apart from the Case & PSU

As far as I remember they have a bridged mode as well so you could get a pair and run an amp on each one if you need more volume / subs etc ....

    Do a search on here >>> http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class...-faq-wiki.html
