    Default MIDI device

Hi guys, what would be the best Midi device or maybe any firewire device where I can plug my guitar or any musical instrument so that I can record it through garageband?
I mean, I can directly record by just plugging in to the mic port but I think it would be better to use such device..please help.
    thanks

I have had luck with M-Audio devices from JBmusic.

I was going to start by recommending a Fast Track USB - because I saw at JB there for about 5k new.

But I see you mentioned MIDI as well - and the step up to Fast Track PRO also has Midi input as well for around 12k

I stuck with those VS other brands mainly because they are ProTools compatable as well as Cubase (the 2 programs I use) - GARAGEBAND compatable also - class compliant OSX devices.
From my last posts on this subject (I think but not 100% sure) my latency was 3ms on the USB devices - not too bad...

But if you need a firewire device then I have no experience there as I didnt think I could go much lower than 3ms with my CPU

The whole USB vs Firewire debate is important when working with a USB 1.1 device with 12Mbps MAX speed and firewire 400 has 400...
But USB 2.0 has 480Mbps - so there are many more choices out there now.

check out the M-Audio Jamlab, available at JB Music. It is also recognized by Protools M-Powered, incase you might upgrade in the future

*sorry, wala nga pala itong midi, but so far it's the smallest (and one of the cheapest) ways to record your guitar, direct.

    Default MIDI guitar

Got this email about a second generation MIDI guitar - looks affordable, too! I wonder if it will be available in the Philippines soon...

about 11k pesos on their webpage.

Interesting. For years we have piano players able to buy tools to make guitar sounds...

Now finally a cheaper price on guitar players using their instrument of choice to play 'piano' parts :P

    Nice..

    interesting

    ^Cool!

I actually have a "MIDI guitar". Well, it's a Strat that can send MIDI data, but I haven't tried its MIDI capabilities yet.

I should and will try it because I need to transcribe a few songs that I am trying to learn.

But the MIDI guitar you cited is affordable indeed, which would practical particularly for teachers who want to save time transcribing their playing onto lessons.

I haven't seen it locally though. If it's like a Guitar Hero game controller, which can be assembled, the packaging may be small enough to be shipped via Johnny Air. Otherwise, it'll be costly to ship, unless you know someone who can *pull strings*.

Yes, the neck detaches from the body so that the guitar's thin box looks like it contains a board game, which can be stuffed in a backpack.

This MIDI guitar, with an iPad or iphone plus headphones? Portable musical fun!!
