Here Lies Love --- the Imelda album
I just downloaded the album from iTunes. it's a collaboration between David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Fat Boy Slim (features a ton of artists, Sia (of Zero 7) , Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, Roisin Murphy (of Moloko), St. Vincent, Santogold, Natalie Merchant etc.). I think it's a great album, it's just unfortunate that the theme is about our country's not so glorious recent history
what's your take on it? from a purely musical perspective, of course or else this thread might get closed.

Re: Here Lies Love --- the Imelda album
I had never heard of this before. But a quick Google search brought up the following. I may just have to get this, if only to sate my curiosity.
The Imelda Marcos Story - As told by David Byrne - Time.com
Here Lies Love - Various Artists - Review - Rollingstone.com
Here Lies Love - Wikipedia (Incidentally, it's weird to see Fatboy Slim & Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos share space on a Wikipedia page subject footer.)
Also, you can download the Single "Please Don't" for free on Byrne's website as well as listen to a sampling of the other tracks on the album: http://davidbyrne.com/here_lies_love/

Re: Here Lies Love --- the Imelda album
hey, thanks for the links. i've been listening to it since this afternoon. it'll probably be one of the best albums of the year. mostly dance tunes though; throwback to 70s disco/ ABBA.
plus, classic David Byrne irreverence. so if you're looking for some other kind of music, this is not for you.

i'm wondering what piqued these artists' interest in pilipinas. did they run out of ideas? weird indeed.

Re: Here Lies Love --- the Imelda album
Got this last week. For Byrne and Fatboy Slim fans, you can hear the influence but they're nothing like I expected it to be. It's somewhat of a let down for me as a whole although I'm loving the Santigold track.
I've scoured through Byrne's journal (http://journal.davidbyrne.com/) but I didn't find any entries explaining his motivations in making the album.
Also, in response to greta, the theme of the album has very little to do with politics (http://www.davidbyrne.com/here_lies_love/history.php). Imelda's biography is a very good read and now that I think of it, the tracks do fit the events they are meant to portray. I think it makes me like the album a tad bit more because of that.

^ yes, you're right. it's really more about Imelda than anything else. & listening to it some more, some tunes are OK, some aren't (or I just dont get it
I'm still wondering though how the subject merited a double disc affair from these artists. & I still find it jarring that the album cover art has a young imelda on it. he he.

Not a fan of disco type of music but some tracks in the album like Here Lies Love and Never So Big are worth listening... and probably to jiggle with while no one is watching
