iMac 27 inch for video editing
I would like to ask if the 27 inch iMac good for video editing (broadcast quality)? I work for a non-profit group and our 10yr old NLE just died. Thanks in advance.

Re: iMac 27 inch for video editing
It should! In fact, I have personally requested my company to acquire a 21.5 inch iMac for our department specifically for that purpose. Just get 8GB of RAM and an external RAID 0 hard drive.

Re: iMac 27 inch for video editing
Since I have MBP already, I plan to get a bigger external screen and use it for video editing. So getting an iMac 27incher with higher specs will be perfect for video editing also. 21.5inch is kinda limited, but its just me.

it's a winner. I personally use one (core i3, 3.2Ghz) and it allows me to, pretty much, be very productive!

Given that some iMac 27-inch models are considered the most powerful Macs ever, I don't see why not :-)

follow-up question:
Our office is kinda inclined on getting the Mac Pro 2.8ghz quad core. We also have two LG Flatron LCD monitor.
Can we still use the two LCD monitor? like a dual monitor? do we need to buy some kind of connector for the Mac Pro to the LCD monitor? Thanks again.

Re: iMac 27 inch for video editing
Dear John,
A Macpro naturally outperforms an imac, especially on upgradeability.
Computing power and HUGE memory allotments as well as video card processing power are made available to you on a Macpro which is somehow limited on an iMac, also naturally more expensive. If your office is inclined on a macpro, go for it, it would do you good for a long time - but an iMac is sufficient (as your thread title suggests)
Yes, you can connect your monitors, although you WILL have issues with the connectors as you will need to purchase extra mini-display port to DVI adaptors.- but nonetheless doable.
When purchasing an iMac for this purpose, make sure you also purchase an APP with it. You will need it i'm sure.

Re: iMac 27 inch for video editing
you mentioned that you work for a non-profit org.
which means costs is always an issue. In your case, i believe you wont be even able to maximize a macpro purchase. So it might be cost effective to go for the iMac.
Now if you plan to put capture cards inside the macpro, that will surely change the equation. But if you use a file based camera and just transfer (copy/paste) files to your editing, then a iMac is more than enough.

well it's the fastest mac to date. I've used my old 27in BTO without hiccups.
