Re: Photography
a more stable system for major graphics work. you dont want all those hours spent editing an image to go to waste when your computer freezes. this is according to my graphic design friends, and my wife who has used both platforms.

Re: Photography
Dear Kim,
In the early years, computerized printing equipment and devices were made using the macintosh platform - not windows, as the macintosh offered, at that time, a very good GUI and a host of more solid and secure coding among others, while windows kept crashing on itself - this has led to printers and graphic arts and publishing designers to use macintosh.
The history of type (fonts) will clearly show how the macintosh platform was an extensive part of it. Windows was not even in that scene at all.
Thats the beginning of the cult following.
The divide has become thinner since as more and more users eventually became computer literate. The sheer number of users worldwide in the Windows platform has become too tempting for equipment manufacturers and vertical users not to adapt to Windows.
A cult member, of course, remains loyal despite advances by the other.
On the ground however, my studio is now powered almost fully by macintosh. From 95% Windows and 5% Apple 13 years ago, the downtime has made me drastically consider the full macintosh platform. Aside from one Fiery server, we are now 95% Macintosh and 5% Windows for more than 7 years already.
Thats from an actual user's perspective of an adopted system.
Using laptops even if they're made by Apple, is an altogether different topic for me because we don't use those.

Because photographers and artists just want a stable machine that doesnt get in the way. They want peace of mind that when they are out in the field shooting a gig, their machine wont crash from a virus they got from a clients usb drive or getiing online, which is a necessity for a photographer today to stay afloat.

Seamless integration of software & OS. Once you get a hang of system, you're cutting 30% or more of your worktime and more on thinking creatively.

I tried, or at least we tried, about 3 times with 17-inch mbp models including the latest. Its just not fast enough. Not powerful enough, and when you do crunch it, it dies on you when you're all warmed up for lack of battery power.
And in case you haven't noticed, mobiles suck the most on defects and hardware-software issues, which is why you need to get APPs for them for peace of mind. We can't work with that.
Real design work, for us, starts and ends, on the desktop. Mobiles are for convenience off-the-studio work.
As for photography use, one can benefit from a mobile, when it is tethered to a camera, but thats about it. Post processing work on a laptop? Mannnn.... that's punishing.

Having worked with photographers, they only use the laptop MBPro on outdoor or on location shooting sessions. Just to show the client or art director how the images look. Eventually for the real grind, photographers transfer the photos to their MacPro desktops using much bigger monitor screens. The final edit photos are normally completed with a desktop.

Why would you ride a Ducati when you can ride on a Ferrari?
