Default Sony NEX 7 or Canon 60D

    Hi!

I'm planning to buy a new camera, i'm torn between a Sony NEX 7 and a Canon 60D, which one do you think is better for an amateur photographer and which one takes better videos? though i think NEX 7 is a little bit more expensive, do you think it'll be worth it? or should i just go with canon?

    THANKS!

I suggest you look at the photos of nex 7 users here and assess if the images there appeal to you.

In addition, Nex 7 is really expensive and you have to shell out more for lenses in order to maximize the body's potential.

Nevertheless, portability of the nex 7 is another awesome factor for getting one.

    Hope this helps.

I'm very happy with 60D. I'm a wedding videographer and I plan on slowly changing my other DSLR's into 60D's. Gotta love that swivel LCD.

    60D
    +Wide range of AF lenses
    +Fast AF
    +Alot cheaper
    -Huge and heavy

    NEX7
    +Small and light.
+You can use pretty much any lenses thru adapters (MF only, but Peaking pretty much solves this problem)
+Best APS-C sensor right now if you factor in MP+Dynamic Range+Noise
    -Expensive
    -Non-standard Hotshoe mount
    -AF is a bit slow

I'm done in using a DSLR after 3 years. Now I move on to the NEX big thing.

If portability is not that great of an issue to you, I will recommend 60D. Great selection of good lenses at affordable prices. NEX-7 is a great camera with advance features, but you should pair it with high quality lenses to maximize its capacity. By the way, most e-mount lenses are of twice the price compared to other lenses offered by other competitors.

Sony has come out with a new adapter mount (LA-EA2) which will allow you to Autofocus with Alpha lenses on the NEX. I've tested it personally and it works really well :-)
