Default Have you ever dropped your portable?

This poll applies to iBook and PowerBook users (no iPods please).

Have you ever dropped your portable? How did it happen? How many times? What damage did the computer sustain? Did it survive?

    Feel free to post pictures.

Update: this poll applies to PORTABLE computers, MacBooks, MacBook Pros. MacBook Airs only.

This happened last year at the Pudong airport in Shanghai. I was using a new bag, the Crumpler Weebee. I didn't know it would tip over on its own, so I managed to drop the bag three times! Luckily, my PowerBook didn't sustain any major damage. Although I do have a small dent in the left corner.

Out of the three times my bag fell, I knew it was the last one, where the bag landed on the corner, that inflicted the damage on my portable.

    I'm now using an STM.

It was around 3 feet off the ground. Luckily, I was using an Incase Sling bag. It had enough padding that cushioned the impact. But that was the only time, I am really carefull now where I place my bag. i usually just put it on the ground na lang. Better na lang for it to get dirty than for it to fall di ba?

No damage done to my iBook.

    Default dropped pb

this has happened to me at the office a few times. most of the time, i "drop" the book on the desk as i slide it out of the sleeve. but the worst incident happened recently. was taking my pbook out of my messenger bag when it slipped out of my fingers at waist level. it dropped too fast for me to try to catch it so i stuck my foot out. the powerbook slid down my shin, came to rest on my foot, then finally on the floor.

it was in an incase sleeve so no damage done.

    whew!

Dropped my iBook, about 2 years ago, when I was taking it out of my bag, in my dad's office.

Luck was on my side, because of 3 things:

    1) The iBook was still in its padded Incase sleeve.
    2) The carpet in my dad's office is pretty thick.
    3) It was due for a hardware upgrade at that time; courtesy of the friendly folks at the Apple Center in Megamall.

However, I think the HD was shaken, because the poor 'Book took a long time starting up, and the HD was pretty noisy.

Next day, brought it to the Megamall Apple Center, and had the HD upgraded to 40 gig.

Clean re-install on a new hard drive, and no more problems after that.

    Thank god for shag carpets.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. And I've blogged about before. Trying to forget.

Laptop bag. Shoulder strap buckle snapped. Bag with its iBook Graphite (Clamshell) content dropped from waist level. No damage.

Been wary of straps and strap buckles since then.
