No video Viewsonic LCD Monitor
Been using a Viewsonic DVI LCD Monitor for about 2 years now and it suddenly stopped working. The screen is completely black. The power light comes on, but that is about it.
I connected another monitor to my computer (mac mini) and it worked fine. I also tried connecting the problematic monitor to another computer but it was still dead, so I am pretty sure the monitor is the problem. I tested both the VGA and the DVI inputs on the monitor, but nothing works.
What are my options?:
1. Is this fixable? Or do I just consign it to the scrap heap. Is this a common failure with LCD monitors?
2. If fixable, where do I get this fixed? There doesn't seem to be a Viewsonic service center here.

so with power but no display.. can you double check if its a total blackout display or there's a display but no backlight?

+1 this
Try to view your LCD monitor from different angles and see if there is a very faint image. You might want to run a bright program like TextEdit to do this. You can also try shining a flashlight or any bright light source at it.
A faint image would mean the backlight is dead. I am assuming this is not an LED backlit monitor, but CCFL backlit. Most probably the CCFL circuits have died. Typical of CCFL backlights.

Sent you a pm of the guy who fixed my 4 year old viewsonic. I spent p700 for busted caps, he tells me this baby can last another 4 years. I love the warmth of viewsonic monitors.

This sounds like a plan.
Got your message and will try it out.

The guy you recommended, Jojo, was great. Came on time, went right to work.
Diagnosed as busted capacitors and replaced them.
Monitor is good as new!
