Question Energy saver UPS settings not appearing..

Good day guys! I recently bought an APC UPS for my imac for its protection. However, when i checked my energy saver, it doesn't seem like my imac recognized it. There's no UPS settings; no hint that it' recognized at all. I tried restarting it and still nothing appears. I hope you guys could help me what to do. TIA

What model of APC did you purchase and have you checked if the USB cable that came with your APC is tight and securely connected to your iMac? Did you try to click on the "Options" tab as that is where your Mac will indicate your battery power level?

That one is the basic entry model and doesn't include USB integration unlike the higher models. I suggest you upgrade to the CS series as that particular model is not good. I used to have that same model before it conked out. I took it to the service center and they explained that the cost of repair would be almost the equivalent of buying a new one. They admitted that they get those models very often, and showed me a pile on the floor.

Thanks for that info sir. You think this particular unit can still save my imac in case of interrupted power supply and its other functions for my imac?

It was good thinking of you to get a power protection UPS for your iMac which is very important. The UPS model you bought can only support up to 230 watts of computer power wattage. It depends on the total maximum watts of your iMac and if it's 20", 24" or 27" screen size. You may check out this LINK. I think with iMacs the max watts is around 120 watts average. If you plan to plug in other gadgets like external hard drives, modems or routers, you will need more than the indicated wattage.

You may try requesting from the store where you bought the UPS if you can exchange it for a higher mobel. It's best to get a model that exceeds the total watts your Mac and factor in plugging in other peripherals. The model you bought has an average battery life of 2 years and once it expires, the whole unit is disposable. With APC's higher end models, the batteries are replaceable.

Pls take note, stores usually give out a one year warranty but this is their store warranty. According to APC customer service, the warranty is 2 years. Only thing is you will need to contact directly the APC customer service and not the store to avail the 2 yr warranty. Make sure to keep your sale receipt as they may ask a scanned copy. Customer service for Phil is located in Singapore but they have a warehouse here.

For higher end models, I read somewhere that it is not advisable to install the CD software that comes along with the model. May cause OS corruption.

    Hope your enjoying your iMac.

No need to go to a corporate vendor for warranty. Simply contact http://www.clixph.com/
They are the offical APC service center here. They have a drop off point at Greenhills V-Mall. This is a lot faster than going through a vendor. When claiming warranty, best to do it yourself rather than go through a 3rd party. Vendors don't earn anything when claiming warranty, thus they don't have any reason to rush your claim which could take as long as a month or more if they choose to sit on it. Much easier and faster to contact Clix directly (because that's what the vendor is going to do anyway) and follow up on the status which in my experience takes less than 2 weeks.

@lei77: Upgrading to a CS 350 or CS 500 will do nicely. I was advised by a former APC technician that the ES model, although has backup power, it does not really have surge supression.
