Default Moving Maps on iPod Touch 4

I tethered My Nokia Smart 3G with my iPod Touch 4 and went for a walk. Interestingly when I launched Maps, my location was plotted. I walked some more and it continued to track my position. It had a few seconds delay compared with gps tethering but it was usable. I tried another app called xGPS and it too tracked well. Papago app did not track. Have any of you tried maps when connected to a 3G device like a phone or a MiFi?

I also took a picture and that was accurately located on the map in Places.

    Setup:

    iPod Touch 4
    iOS 4.1
    Nokia N78
    Joikuspot Premium (3G tethering app)
    MacBook Air 11", 1.4 ghz, 128gb ssd  Airport Extreme Base Station  Apple Magic Mouse  iPad 2  iPod Touch 4 • ZTE V9 Light Tab • Olympus E-PL1 • Gmate Companion Phone • Olympus OM-D EM5

The Joikuspot Lite works but you don't get wep security and chat protocol for YM. Joikuspot Premium has been my best friend and has given my iPod Touch excellent functionality. I bought an extra batt so my total surfing time is 4 hours.
