iPhone 3GS on iOS4 - no sound
The sound on my iPhone 3GS, after upgrading to iOS4, has been erratic. It goes on and off, more off than on.
When off, all sounds are gone, including sound on the phone. Thus, I can call but I don't hear the person on the other end and neither can he or she.
I've done restore and other troubleshooting tips to no avail.
Will downgrading to OS v3 help?
Would appreciate advise. Thanks.

Re: iPhone 3GS on iOS4 - no sound
I've experienced the same issue with my 3GS. It was upgraded to iOS 4 on the second day of the upgrade's release, then about two weeks later; volume for voice call has been erratic. At first, I merely assumed it was a network problem, but now I'm not so sure.

Re: iPhone 3GS on iOS4 - no sound
Ater reading post after post from all sorts of website i finally got fed up and figured out the issue myself. the 4.0 to 4.2.1 firmware(current version) has a glitch that hopefully gets fixed next update, but who knows, anyway heres the temp solution for people with iDevices having the "no sound" issue, no volume controls, etc...
1. take a fine brush and clean the port on the bottom of the phone where the usb cable plugs in.
2. blow out the port with a can of air.
3. make sure your phone is on
4. plug the usb cable into the wall or your computer.
5. while holding the volume up button on the side of the phone, plug the usb cable into it for a second then unplug it and play with the volume buttons.
6. if step 5. did not work just keep playing with the volume buttons while plugging and unplugging the usb cable to the phone.
7. works for me evertime and restores all my sounds, even lock/unlock sounds and keyboard clicks. Phone calls are loud and clear
**Note: you have to repeat steps 3-6 everytime you turn off and turn on your phone, so do it once and just put your phone to sleep by pressing the power botton, dont power it off.**

if you plug the usb cable into your computer, will it not damage the iPhone if you do this while it's configured to auto sync ?

try using wall adapter instead of pc usb port with those naughty iphones,
thats why I still stays with 3.1
IMHO iOS4 is just made for iPhone 4

That is why I recommend saving your signature hash files using TinyUmbrella for every iOS release. This way even if new iOS are released you can restore to the old one. At the moment you can only save iOS 4.2.1. Save your shsh now before iOS 4.3 comes out.
