Default Help Ipod Classic 160 Gb problem

My wife's ipod classuc had a hard disk problem before. It wouldnt boot up anymore and you can hear a ticking sound when you try to turn it on.

A frien of mine suggested told me to slam it on a table. I thought he was kidding. But he told me he tried it with his and it started to work again. Since i had nothing to loose. I did it but i put a towel on the table to lessen dents. It started to work again after a few whacks. And its been a year and its still working. But i just left it in a dock ever since, so that it wont get any vibrations which may break it again.

Welcome to Philmug. First, we encourage a simple font to use when you post. As for your question, try to do a hard reset. This might help:

Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

the whacking trick normally works for the 4th gen ipod monochrome or photo. but for 5th upto the current model, the success rate is quite low.
