GPS Issues on the iPhone 4
Is there anyone here having GPS issues with their iPhone 4?
My wife's Google Maps is not accurate, sometimes the blue dot moves even if no one is touching the phone.
We are also having issues with RunKeeper since GPS signal is always poor.
Is there any app we can use to test this further before I return it to my telco?

This does happen at times, especially if "line of sight" is obstructed by buildings, trees etc. As more satellites come into or out of the line of sight the phone makes corrections. So even if the phone doesn't move, the blue dot may do so.

Make sure your gps is set to on. Some apps with location services can locate you even with wifi or 3G. While pretty good, it can give misleading results.
I doubt it is hardware. GPS receivers either work or they don't. If you get gps tracking and wifi and 3G are off then it is getting information from the satellites. In which case it works. It is now down to the software.
Also consider that these are not full blown gps machines. Their level of accuracy is good enough but not too good for very accurate readings to measure running distance and speed.
If you run in an area with buildings, you get zig zagging tracks. Zig zags translate into a longer distance when straightened out. So while a track is accurate enough but zig zags on a map, the path is good but the speed and distance aren't. I really do not rely on these phones for running. They are fun but that's it.

About how much "off" from actual would the IP4 be? I just calibrated the speedo of my car based on the reading I got from the Dashboard app hehe

Re: GPS Issues on the iPhone 4
It depends on the area and weather. Out on a clear highway ( no buildiings) and on a clear day, it can be very good. Here in a residential area in QC I measured an actual 2.8km route as 1.9km one time due to dropouts (incomplete tracks). On other occasions it measure past 3km ( due to zig zagging.)
Like I said use gps for general map directions and geotagging of pics. For anything else, use it for fun. I run and I don't rely on Running apps for pace. It's just not accurate enough. For cars though running at highway speeds on a clear day, it can be pretty good. Then again, your car has a much more accurate speedo so what's the point? Again, it is just for fun.

BTW, sorry I seem to have inadvertently hijacked your thread ice...
Back to your topic bro

its ok...
nice to know that devices do not give the exact reading...
anyway, my wife's iPhone is still under warranty, I'll bring it to the service center next week and check.

Turn on Location Services in Settings. Open the Maps app. Click the Arrow icon below. A radiating blue dot indicates the your iPhone was located.
