Default Getting a used Ipod Touch

hi guys, i will meet a seller of an Ipod Touch 3rd Gen this coming Tuesday. this will be my first time to venture in an IOS-based Ipod. i'm a former user of Ipod Video.

any tips on what to check while i test the unit?

and also how do i Know it's 3rd gen?

how 'bout the battery and screen? is there an app/diagnostic tool that can be run in the Ipod to test it? i'll bring my laptop (windows-based) with itunes installed with me

hope you can help me. tia.

    Paste the serial number here:

    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

    Identify models here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353#iPod_touch_late2009

3G has sleek curved metal back that is slim on the edges. Play a song, you should hear the music through the built in speakers. Note that 2G MC can also do this so rely on serial number or model number in About. See below.

Check that all buttons work. Power button on top should start the iPod. It also puts the iPod to sleep. It wakes it up. Open an app. Now press the home button. The app should quit or minimize. Play music and push side volume buttons. Volume should adjust. Lastly, insert an earphone on the jack. You should hear music.

To check iOS version, go to Settings>General>About. You can also see the serial number there. Ipod Touch 3G model should be A1318.

I am afraid you cannot test the battery life without using it. Since the 3G is old, expect 3-4 hours on wifi.

Meet where there is wifi and test internet connection to ensure the wifi is working. Generally if the iPod can detect access points it is good to go.

When you get home, download iTunes and create an account. You need not put credit info yet. Then sync your iPod. Let it erase it. This way any content you download on the iPod can be transferred to the pc. Otherwise content will be erased.

If you don't mind, how much are you getting it? And what capacity?

    pop3corn,

just think twice before getting a 2nd hand unit. i currently have a busted 3rd gen itouch and cost to repair the motherboard is around P3500. just in case your unit breaks down you will need to shell out roughly the same amount for the mother board plus other parts if some of these needs to be repaired or replaced. also you need to spend to reinstall all the programs plus the games, music and movies. you could have already bought a brand new itouch 4 for all the repairs/installation done.

if you are working on a budget, try to go to charlies store and he is offering 6 months zero interest. its a stretch payment with a slight increase in cost with no interest and best of all your brand new unit gets a 1 year warranty and you can sleep at night with no worries.

    just my suggestion and thanks.

If the seller is from PhilMug, then just go with the deal.. If he's not, then trust will only be your motivation..

    @manny,

the question is, does the TS have a CC?..
