Default alternative way of updating firmware for Iphone 4

Hi guys, been trying to update my Iphone 4 for 2 days already.it seems that whenever i leave my macbook it will go to sleep mode together with my download!Anyway,i was able to download the update but overtime i click on it,itunes would show up and would ask if i would like to update my firmware.

How can l update the phone without going to itunes?is this even possible

BTW,my Iphone is not jailbroken,i got it from globe

You need itunes to update/upgrade your iphone!

Connect your iphone into itunes then

If you are using mac option+restore/update

    If PC shift+restore/update

Then select go to the directory where you save your downloaded firmware double click then let it go

    Connect your iphone

Do not disconnect your iPhone while the download is in progress. also, set the power settings so that it won't go to sleep when DL'ing.
This happens. This is an anagram.

You need an internet connection for iTunes to talk with the Apple servers for authorization. If you click Update in iTunes and it downloads again it means the ipsw is corrupted.

i encountered the same problem also when i downloaded the direct link of coqueiro... i deleted the downloaded file and went to connect my device to itunes... an update box appeared and asked if i want to download and update or download only... i chose to download only... after an hour and a half, connected my device again and apple did extract the software update and went on to update my device... IMO, this seems to be the easier route to take... went on to update my ipad 2 and ipod touch 4th gen using this method.

    hope this helps

Just use a download manager to download the firmware. That way you can resume even if the macbook sleeps. Or you could check this Apple Support Document to adjust your power management settings, which dictate when your macbook goes to sleep. Or both.

Yes, it's in each respective thread for the iOS version here. However if you use iTunes or Safari to download, if the connection is broken for whatever reason, you'll need to redownload. Hence the suggestion of using a download manager.
