    Default Question: Can I Use Usb External Dvd Burners/Writers On My Powerbook G4 1.33ghz 15"?

    QUESTION: CAN I USE USB EXTERNAL DVD BURNERS/WRITERS ON MY POWERBOOK G4 1.33Ghz 15"?

    my superdrive is busted. it wont accept CD's after my daughter inserted a bussiness card on it. huhuhu! i want to install OS X Leopard on my powerbook. but the thing is I cant because my dvd drive is busted. My best option is to buy a USB External DVD ROM BURNER/WRITER just like this:

    i also have one option that is available localy here in davao:

    i think this one has firewire (please correct me if im wrong, please take a look at the picture)

    yes you can, but make sure to tst it out first.

    try samsung and lg brands also, don't cheap on your external hard drive.

    another option is replace the internal drive itself, all you have to do is remove the top case then you can access and replace the optical drive. you can open the optical drive to remove the business card or simply replace the drive.

    How about on the eMac? Can i put an external DVD burner because i can't burn the movies a created from iMovie.

    My concern is maybe the driver will not be compatible with the Mac OS X.

    Yes you can use an external DVD burner, my wife use to have an ibook G4 and was able to use my external BENQ DVD burner since her ibook only came with a combo drive.

    The one you posted as available in Davao is not firewire but also a USB, but uses a connector similar to printers.

    If you use a standard 5.25" external enclosure (USB 2.0 and/or Firewire) and install a regular internal DVD burner in it, you won't need any drivers for OS X. The Mac should see it automatically.

    ^Plug it in. It should automagically appear on your desktop.

    Format the usb drive as MacOS Journaled or Fat32.
