Planning to sell an MBP without a receipt... HELP.

Happy Holidays fellow PhilMUGgers :-)

I recently received gifts/payment from a supplier (payment for a big utang). One of the gift is a MBP 17" Quadcore i7 2.2ghz. Brandnew still in box. Other gifts are much larger :-)

Anyway, Im planning to sell this since I have no use for this as I have other Macs.

The problem is, the 'giver' did not provide the receipt...

My question is, is there a way to register this product via Apple website for the warranty? I have no proof of purchase date with me, I dont even know where this came from. How do I let Apple know that I just got this this month (the unit is an early 2011 model)... and also, how do I sell this here in PhilMUG without a receipt? is that allowed?

I cannot ask the "gift-giver" for the receipt, the reason's complicated (legal matters and ethics). I have already tried, but in vain.

PS:
Along with the MBP are iPad 2's... also with no receipt, proof of purchase date :-(

have you checked the warranty status of unit at the apple support website using its serial #?

^Have you checked the warranty on the Apple website? It may already be there. Try for all units in question

i think the units aren't registered yet so if you check the serial #s, it'll just prompt you to register them...or i could be wrong.

Try going to an ASP and give the serial numbers. They would know when and where those were purchased.

^From my experience, the reseller has to enter the serial in the Apple database for warranty to begin. Registration of the product under your name is a different process, as this can be done at the buyer's leisure

With Apple, there is no need for a receipt, except in cases wherein date of purchase is in question or disputed. Such question arises only in times of claiming warranty or registering AppleCare Protection plan near the end of the covered period.
