    ^Yes - Mini Display Port-to-HDMI connection

just make sure you get the right cable (some cables do not carry sound) also check if the monitor you're eyeing on is compatible.

authorized apple retailers carry Apple MND to DVI
there are third party brands being carried by Apple resellers also.

I tried to get one yesterday from Charlie's newly opened store at the Lucky ChinaTown mall but they only have the VGA since their stocks are not that complete yet

DVI would be a challenge - I got mine online (monoprice)

checkout PowerMacCenter, they sell those cables (Moshi/Kanex) - quite pricey though... and these are HDMI only (you can get an adapter).

thanks to cybersniper, i was up and running today.

i hauled my PC monitor which i seldom use and bought a mini display port to dvi adapter from digital hub then use a stereo cable to "transmit" audio from the headphone jack of the air to the input monitor audio. thanks again.

    awesome help cybersniper

i also tried "docking" the mbp, but just like 650h2 said, it reduces the airflow efficiency of the mac.
    better keep that lid open.

The thing is - back then with Snow Leopard, you can leave your Mac's shell opened but display off...

Now with Lion, you cannot do this anymore. Whenever you open the shell, the display fires up automatically. --- and this is really annoying.

dont worry too much about the vents - it's designed that way. It may cause you to worry looking at it. But believe me - it does its job.
