Re: Newbie: aside from the unit itself, what are the other essentials? I think this is even more important than AppleCare. Hardware can be replaced even if you have to pay for it but lost data is lost forever.

if your using your laptop with a wristwatch on, you might wanna consider buying a palm guard so as to prevent scratches from the body near the trackpad.

Is a notebook cooler (for laptops used mostly at home without airconditioning) also an essential item to have? I've read somewhere that heat eventually shortens the lifespan of any electronic item.
