MERGED: ALL AppleCare Discussions for Mobile Macs
Hey philmuggers
I need help deciding if I really should get AppleCare. My warranty expires at the end of June and I could order it from Amazon but I was thinking $200 is kind of expensive. I'm also thinking of buying Time Capsule kasi :P
Since Apple products are pretty reliable as it is, should I really let go of $200 for an extra two years?
I'm using a late '08 Macbook white 2.4ghz btw.
Cheers

Re: AppleCare: Is it really worth buying?
In my opinion, yes it is. I've had an LCD, top case changed with AppleCare. Plus the resale value of your mac will be better.

Logic Board repair costs 30k+++. AppleCare costs 8k+++.
...It's worth it.

Definitely yes, My defective 17" iMac G5 was replaced with an 20" iMac Intel core 2.

You can take a look at this thread here for how useful APP is to those who bought it. One thing I can tell you with what most Mac user friends who never bought APP and when something needs repaired after 2 years is, "The cost of repair is more expensive than buying an APP! I should have bought one".
For example, 8K for an MB APP is way better than have a busted (due to high usage) optical drive which can cost you around that price for a combo or in the area of 15K for a superdrive.
Edit: You also won't want to have the worry when this happens to you too. APP is worry-free for 3 years.

One word: YES. My MacBook hard drive conked out on me last December, three months after my 1 year limited warranty lapsed. Good thing I applied for an APP a few months beforehand...
You never really know what's going to happen to your Mac in those two years. And do you know why APP for the MacBook is more expensive than for the iMac? Because it's for a portable, which is undeniably more prone to damage due to its mobile nature.

Re: AppleCare: Is it really worth buying?
Yes! a month before my warranty expires (april'09) i saw white marks on my lcd, i sent it to the service center and they replaced the WHOLE top cover of my mbp. so it's so worth it

Hmmmm. the question now is, with everybody's answer to your question is YES, do u still doubt it will be worth it or not....
. my experience it that it will make your decision even harder. haha but relax you still have time
I would suggest you buy the TC now and try to earn the cash till May.
If you think its worth it then you can buy it and have a cash set aside for it.
if not then you still have a cash to purchase an ipod or something. or even have extra cash for a vacation, (just dont bring along your laptop, to be safe)
