Default Macbook Pro 15" 1st generation problem

hey guys, im having problems with my macbook pro 15" (1st generation). whenever i turn it on, it shows the gray screen with the apple image in the middle, but my whole screen is covered with small rectangular figures and it just stays there until i turn off my computer. And whenever i turn it on again, its the same thing, whole screen covered with small rectangular shapes. anyone ever experienced this problem before? and is there anyone there who knows how to solve this issue? thank you very much

Are the rectangles you're talking about dead pixels? Because from the way you described your problem, it sounds like your mac's got them.

Could be the graphics card or logic board as well. Which model is that? With ATI or NVIDIA card. I don't know if you gave it a try yet, but pop in the Mac OS disc you got with the computer and try to hold the "C" key while booting up to see if it can boot from CD. You can also try to let "Hardware Diagnostics" run by holding the "D" key while boot-up.

    Good luck.

did you accidentally turn on voice over? it boxes out elements of the screen.
Command-F5 or fn-Command-F5 Turn VoiceOver on or off (Mac OS X 10.4 or later)
