I saw a couple of articles in Gizmodo earlier commenting on how their new macbook airs were freezing and crashing suddenly and without warning. The first article was suggesting that the problem affected only the BTO macbook airs with 8gb of ram. Then the second article (New MacBook Air Crashing? Blame Google Chrome, Probably) wondered if the problem was caused by Google Chrome. It's really worrying. I don't think Apple has commented on the issue yet.

Has this problem been happening on your new Macbooks? And if it has, does it happen while you're using Google Chrome?

I have the new 15-inch MacBook Pro mid 2012, I have been using it for about almost a week and a half and I don't have any problem with it. This is my 5th mac laptop, and I should say this is the fastest mac I've ever owned.
I still have the stock hard drive but will be upgrading soon to ssd drive. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask.

I have been using my 2012 MBA 13" for 3 days now. Yes, I experience some freezes - actually, more like hiccups with the rainbow wheel spinning for 2 to 5 seconds. This happens every time I transfer files/apps from my time capsule and old iMac into the MBA. Should I be worried? My file transfers are less than 1Gb. I thought this is just normal during the "break-in" period and my transfer method being wireless.

Aside from that, I am quite happy with my purchase.

If your Mac crashes using only Apple apps then bring it in for diagnosis. If you want DIY then reinstall OS X and do not put 3rd party apps. Observe the Mac. If it doesn't crash, install your suspected 3rd party apps. Do it one by one so you know which one caused it.

Note that the mid-2012 MBP/MBA models need a 'special' version of Lion that can only be downloaded via the Recovery Partition.

Even if you try to download Lion from the Mac App Store, it will prompt that the version will not work with your computer.

Hi, Did you get the standard 4gb RAM or upgraded it to 8gb? Im also thinking of getting the MBA but still debating if i'll upgrade RAM to 8gb. What could be causing the freezes?

    This article confirms it: http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/28/is-your-new-macbook-air-crashing-frequently-blame-google-chrome/

Several users on Apple’s Support Communities have reported that their new MacBook Air has been crashing frequently, and in most cases have pinned Google Chrome to be the main cause. Luckily all of our speculation has been cleared up this evening, as Google confirmed to Gizmodo that Chrome is the culprit behind the kernel panics on Macs featuring an Intel HD 4000 graphics chip, aka the new MacBook Airs. Google says its working to fix the issue, and in the mean time has temporarily disabled some of Chrome’s GPU acceleration on the new MacBook Air via an autoupdate
Haha. Google did it on purpose! just kidding.
