Default Grey market VS Mac stores?

    Hi guys

newbie here at philmug but a veteran user of Mac since the 90s. I've been using Mac at work ever since. But the only Mac I've bought was the candy-colored imacs. We've always been using office-supplied Macs kasi at work.

So this time, I'm thinking of buying a MBP. it's very practical, di ba? But here's the thing, I'm torn between buying from authorized dealers and the grey market. I've seen some threads here that say ok naman yung mga sellers sa grey market. And obviously their costs are way much cheaper, average of P50k for the 13" MBP.

So again, is it safe to buy from direct sellers? There are alot of good deals in sites like TipidPC.

Please, let me know what you guys think or if you have tried buying from them or know of anyone with feedback. I'm kinda in a rush to get one soon.

You may encounter a problem if apple requests for proof of purchase for warranty registration

After sales service. Grey market is usually zero on that. I even know of an official reseller (with great prices) who instantly replaced within 7 days an MBP that was proven to have a factory hardware defect. Try that with a grey market reseller.

Have you tried contacting Charlie, the owner of Digital Hub for special Philmug prices? They are very competitive vs the grey market. Back 2007 I used to buy my Macs either in Hong Kong or from a grey market importer because of lower prices but not anymore thanks to Charlie.

As for warranty issues. Just make sure to register your Macs on the first day you got it and take note of the day your warranty is supposed to expire based on Apple's website info. If you do that, you will never experience any problems with non-philippine market bought Macs when it comes to warranty service. If you think that the Mac you bought in June, started its warranty coverage in as early as May (a common problem) always demand a official receipt just in case. Then call Apple Asia to have it fixed.

With that said, I prefer to buy Macs from resellers like Digital Hub because Apple counts every sale as a Philippine sale unlike gray market importers which sourced their merchandize from places like Hong Kong and Singapore. The more sales we get locally, the more Apple will consider us a viable market and the more support we will get as a country,

^In my experience, that's only necessary when there is a conflict between the actual and registered dates (for warranty purposes).
