Re: Mac Mini versus Macbook?
Hi,
PC user all my life and had just discovered the joys of using apple products with the ipod nano and itouch. I'm looking to upgrade to a new laptop/desktop (i used these terms baka taboo yung "PC" sa forums na to) this december. Just wondering if there is a difference if I buy a mac mini or a macbook pro. I know a mac mini does not have a monitor like an imac, but it looks like a good deal to be able to use an apple computer on a cheap. Not sure sa specs, but they say it has core i5 already.
Thanks for the inputs!
One more thing, why is it that there is still a login screen on the Main index even though I'm already logged in? (just wondering)

Re: Mac Mini versus Macbook?
Hi i just bought the latest mac mini, with the lowest specs. Was not happy because was able to compare the speed with my 2nd to the latest model of macbook air. I would recommend you get the air, for its ssd and 2g ram.
Macbook Air 11" 1.4Ghz | 4GB DDR3 | 128GB SSD
Mac Mini | Lion | Intel Core i5 | 500 GB | Superdrive
IPad 2 | 64 GB | Wifi + 3G

If you're into gaming, and if you plan to use bootcamp for gaming on the mini, get the more expensive one (41k SRP, i5, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM). If not, get the 11 inch Air with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD.

Mac Mini if it will primarily be a desktop setup, and you already have a mac laptop or ipad for your mobile computing needs.
if you dont have a macbook pro or macbook air yet, then go for these first so you can have the option of bringing your mac with you where ever you go, then get a nice big lcd monitor so you can hook it up when you are using your new mac laptop at home.

Re: Mac Mini versus Macbook?
Depends.. if you need the portability, get the macbook. If you usually use your computer at home, I think the Mac Mini would suffice.
I was considering getting a mac mini but I already have a MBP 2011. I realized I wouldn't have much use of it anyway since I really bring my computer anywhere.
The mac mini is pretty good if you want a home theater system as well cause you can just connect it to the TV via HDMI.
Just consider if you need the portability that MBP has to offer, otherwise i think mac mini would suffice. Consider the high end one too

Just a reminder though that the current Mac mini does not have an optical drive if that matters to you. It does to me so MBP or iMac for me.

But remember you can always add a cheap 2,000 pesos DVD writer to the Mini. Not a very elegant solution but the option is there!

Re: Mac Mini versus Macbook?
If you buy a Mac Mini and use 3rd party peripherals you are not really "feeling" the Apple product. It's just like using a Hackintosh. That is fine if all you are after is OS X.

Its kinda hard to use any computer without third party accessories. Especially the super minimal Mini.
