    Unhappy iMac "No Power Issue"

    Hi Guys!

    Good Day!

I had a problem with my new iMac 17" unit that was bought a month ago, that last week it wouldn't turn ON. I had tried using another cable and connecting it to a UPS but it seems a failure. I tried connecting the power cable directly to the power socket but it's a failure again , i had my supplier pulled it out for a service warranty repair (they had turned over the unit to Apple Service Center), but until now (6 days prior to pick-up) I have no report on the status & problem of my iMac.

Can I ask a question... does Apple Service center provides a "Service Unit" in this kind of case/situation... coz' I can't do my workloads (with pending projects) on line. as per supplier side, they said that "they don't provide service units".

    Thanks & regards.

Recently had a similar problem with my Imac 17 c2d. HD was failing. Once it boots it freezes. I placed it in Firewire mode to extract the files still it fails. Did a PRAM reset, it booted then had a kernel panic. Then it won't power on. I was really frustrated already. Last resort was to remove and reinstall the RAM. Finally I heard the start up sound then it booted up properly and made a back up. Now I'm currently booting through an external disk.

What's weird is that my internal HD appears ok now when I ran Disk Utility. But my external HD needs repair.

Question though, do they still have a brand new imac 17"?

    thanks for the info.

well my iMac 17" as far as i know is the version with the i5 processor. and it was pre-ordered 3 months before the delivery, it's hard to find a stock-order for the 17"s, if you want you may contact my supplier "LITEWARE COMPUTER" Kamuning Branch (kindly search it in the net )

that's is also my concern right now, if my hard disk will work properly and if my files will be recovered, i haven't done time machine yet due to it's only 1 month old. (don't have a back-up of all files migrated from my old powermac G5 to this new iMac unit)

hoping for some action from the apple center, until now haven't heard any news/update about my iMac.

    thanks & regards.

Do they still sell iMac 17's? I thought the last one was in 2006. The current smallest is a 21.5".

maybe the TS misread the label in the box, instead of 17, its i7 - meaning it uses an intel core i7 processor.

Just for clarification, the iMac 17" looks like this:

Which was last made in 2006 (now discontinued)

The thread starter's iMac (probably 2011 model) probably looks like this:

this model comes in 21.5 inches or 27 inches.
