imac early 2008 model to use mini-displayport to HDMI, possible?

Hey guys,

I'm not really a technical person so might as well ask around the geniuses here before I make any purchasing decision.

I got an iMac early 2008 model (with the intel core 2 duo chip) and I'm planning to extend it using a samsung led monitor.

Now i found the samsung model i want but unfortunately its connection is either dual link dvi or HDMI.

Now as per initial research, ive read that my imac can support minidisplay port to VGA or DVI but not HDMI. (please correct me if im wrong) but i cant get other information.

So my question is, (drumroll) - if i purchase the samsung, can i also purchase the minidisplay to HDMI and will it work? or i have to look for a monitor that supports vga or DVI instead?

i personally think it'll work... no audio output though...
btw does the imac 2008 have the mini display port or the mini dvi port? if u have this

its the a mini dvi port... go for the mini dvi to dvi/hdmi adapter...

i used to hook my then beloved macbook white 2009 with mini dvi to my 32in samsung using mini dvi to hdmi... no problem whatsoever
and my, also then beloved, mbp 2010 with mini display port to hdmi to the same tv... no problems whatsoever.

If your Mac has a MiniDisplay port, it'll work as long as you have the right adapter. But no audio output as moliro stated above.
