Buy Mac now or wait for new OS?

Ok. So I was planning on buying a Macbook Pro this December, but my friend told me that the new OS (Lion) would come out around July next year and suggested that I should just wait.

I don't know if I'd be badly needing a new laptop for the next few months since I'm not sure with my workload. My laptop can't seem to handle large files in Photoshop well though. It lags like crazy especially whenever I use text.

But then again I might regret if I just buy now. Any thoughts or suggestions?

i'm not very up-to-date with the rumors, but i think it's the 13" MBP that will get an overhaul of updates, so if you really feel like you need one and you want to future-proof your purchase a bit, go for the 15" or the 17" MBP..

of course, it won't hurt to wait a bit, especially with the new OS coming out hopefully next year, but then again, it's your need that you should consider

OSX (10.7) Lion is software, so you can just easily upgrade when it comes out this June-August 2011. Six months is a very long wait (not to mention a waste in productivity) for what is essentially a upgrade worth just a few thousand pesos. Any modern Mac with an Intel processor should be able to run it so even if you buy a new Mac now it should be able to run Lion very smoothly.

However, according to Macrumors, the Macbook Pro will get an update soon so it is probably wise to wait at least until the end of January for a hardware refresh if you wish to buy a new Macbook Pro.

When the new OS Lion comes out next year, you have to count in some bugs you will be facing. And if a new MBP comes out, it's still new and untested. Maybe in the time being, you can first try to optimize and see if there are ways for your Mac to run faster before buying. Usually Photoshop needs a Scratch Disk on another separate physical drive for it to run faster. And check your remaining free space on your hard drive. Or upgrade your memory? And your thread has to be under "Mobile Macs" so other members using laptops may give more inputs.

It says that the new Macbook Pros are going to be updated soon which is on track for Apple's next presscon. I'd wait if I were you.

I dont think you will regret buying one now. The present generation of MacBook Pros can handle photoshop without breaking a sweat. The only thing that you will be giving up if you buy now would be the bragging rights to say that you have a 2011 Pro or a Lion OS other than that its all gravy.

And to add, i dont think buying now would affect your upgrade to Lion OS.

Just saying. So when you buy now, say a MBP, its OS is SL. But comes Lion, you can always upgrade, anytime, anywhere. haha
