Minumum Netbook Specs...
I am presently planning to get 2 Netbooks (1 used and 1 new)
1st Netbook will be for my daughter, it will be used for browsing the internet, playing flash games (online) and watching AVI videos (non-HD).
What Netbook specs do I need? (lower is better)
She is presently using a Dual Core Compaq running on Vista but the battery is dead and she finds it too heavy... so we both agreed that a Netbook will be better for her.
2nd Netbook is just for the house to download torrents, I'm planning to get a used 7inch eeePC... Run it in Linux then just install whatever Torrent App is available, then save all downloads to my 8gb SD card...
Please give me your precious inputs as I have no experience in owning Netbooks (or anything that uses Atom or Celeron)...
Thanks in advance.

for the 1st netbook, eePC is good.

Re: Minumum Netbook Specs...
check out the HP netbooks, or the acer ones. If budget is not an object, the one from sony is good too.

for #1) any Atom processor will crawl on flash games.
for #2) any Atom processor is fine for torrent.

I'll recommend a brand new Lenovo S10-3s Atom N550 10.1" model (or ask for latest model) for your daughter, a brand new Lenovo S10-3 for 24/7 use. I would not go for used as specs & battery life of old models are lower; also used ones might not have any more warranty for problems that may come up with 24/7 use.
An S10-3 would probably be about 10-15k (see PCExpress, Gilmore stores or Tipidpc.com). Lenovo is also known to produce sturdy & practical products.

#1 is this also true with those dual-core Atoms?
#2 I'm thinking of the old eeePC which uses a Celeron Processor.

Re: Minumum Netbook Specs...
i used to own an HP Mini 1000TU and Toshiba Mini NB205. of the two brands, toshiba is better in terms of battery life. it can last 7hours of normal use with wifi turned on. speed is almost the same since they both use CPU of the same kind(Atom).

I've bought used laptops before & the cost of hdd, ram & battery upgrades remove its' cost advantage (you eventually come to a point you want to max-out the specs). And when the LCD shows defects, as well as hinge, keyboard & trackpad problems - with no warranty support, you'll wonder why you didn't get that brand new netbook for only 10k... (better graphics too for the newer model)
So I sold the used laptop & got myself a new Lenovo S10-2. Pangharabas tested!
