Safari vs Camino - which is faster / sleeker?

My vote goes to Mozilla Firefox. As fast as Safari, and more compatible with sites that tend to break the former. A spectacular browser.

Could someone post a screenshot of Camino? Can;t seem to find any one the website. I'm contemplating on switching browsers after reading this thread. Also, does Camino work well with shapeshifter in changing skins?

My vote goes to the latest Mozilla release (1.7rc2). Faster than Camino 0.8b, Firefox 0.8 and Safari 1.2.1. Startup time is a bit slow but that's not an issue for me 'coz it's fast where it matters. Word is that Opera 7.5 is a bit faster but it's not free ($39, free if you don't mind being bombarded with ads).

It's a bit bloated (45.xMB compared to around 30MB for Firefox, 20MB for Camino, and 15MB for Safari) but that's because it has a built-in email and IRC client. Another plus for Mozilla (at least for me) is that you have almost total control over its settings. It's not for everybody but it's my favorite by far. :-)

And I'm telling you, Mozilla 1.7rc2 is faster than the newly-released Camino 0.8b and is much faster than Camino 0.7. :-)

Mozilla and Camino use the same rendering engine (Gecko). Camino 0.7 is still using the older and slower version though (version 1.0). The latest Camino beta (0.8b) is not on version 1.7 which puts it at part with Mozilla 1.7x. Mozilla 1.7rc2 is still faster though, probably because it's more mature.

Make sure you clear the browsers' disk caches first before loading any website to get accurate results. And you need to do it before loading each and every website. ;-)

Yes, it's fast, but how much resources does it eat up? A lot right? I can't afford to have programs vying for system resources whenever I boot them up. Right now, Camino is eating up 66MB and that's without Mail fired up. My point is with Opera, you can have browsing plus emailing right in one package resulting in more free resources. :beer:

The best way to compare browsers is to start from zero. Meaning, flush out the cache and create a test for one site (let's say cnn.com). Take note of the resources the browser eats up after it has loaded the page.

Next, test tabs. Create a tab test collection (cnn.com, inq7.net, apple.com, macnn.com, versiontracker.com, philmug, pinoymac, etc.) and clock the speed the browser takes to open these up. Again take note of the resources.

From here, we can get a true reading of how fast a browser is. Sometimes, its the cache that speeds up things. Sometimes, its the rendering engine. By comparing things slowly but surely, you can decide which browser's best for your browsing habits.

For me it's Opera but to each his own.
