Default Help uploading iWeb files to 000webhost

    Hey guys,

I tried a search but couldn't find any answers.

Anyway, I created a website using iWeb. I have published them to a folder in my Sites folder on my mac. For the hosting site, I use 000webhost and FileZilla to upload the files there.

I tried running my website locally before even uploading it and everything works as it should. But the problem is, when I view my website online, I get a PHP error instead...

    PHP Error Message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/a4927071/public_html/index.html on line 1

Did I upload the files wrong or is there something I need to know? This is the first time I did this so please bare with me.

    Thanks!

    As per Apple's website:

iWeb: Error on some web servers after publishing
    Last Modified: August 21, 2008
    Article: TS2167
    Old Article: 304048
    Symptoms
Some web servers may display an error on a website created in iWeb:

"Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in [filename].html on line 1."
    Products Affected
    iWeb
    Resolution
The settings on some web servers may cause difficulty parsing the line in a published iWeb document that establishes XML compliance. If you get this error message on your published website, please contact the administrator of your web server.

This issue does not occur on sites published to MobileMe.

    MY SOLUTION

I use both iWeb '09 and 000webhost. I publish to a folder, open up my html file in TextEdit and remove the 1st line (this is causing the problem and is noted in the Help area of 000WebHost.com). Then I upload the file and all supporting files to the appropriate area of my 000 account, using Fetch. Then visit the page to make certain, all is OK.

Of course, this totally eliminates the convenience of using iWeb '09's built in FTP Upload feature. But, they would rather you purchase a MobileMe account. MobileMe is terrific and I might get it again someday, but $$$ is too tight in this economy for me to give away $99/Year, particularly for what I'm using it for.

Hope this helps you and many others who love and who have become dependent on iWeb's simple and easy to use features (with the exception of this part).

May I suggest another free webhosting service which would suffice with your needs? I onced used xtreem host... they offer big bandwidth which I couldn't recall but it's easy uploading iWeb folders there. got to www.xtreemhost.com they even give you a free .co.cc domain name, ex. www.evan-racing.co.cc

    Rdy0329,

Thanks much, dude. I switched to xtreemhost and that partially solves my problem. Perhaps you have an answer to this question, too, though. I use iWeb to create eBay listings. But I have to pull out the Javascript and Meta codes for it to work within their system. Do you know of anyway around this?

In order to migrate your website from MobileMe to 000webhost you need to store a .htaccess file in the root directory (/public_html) of the 000webhost file system,
    containing two entries:
    AddHandler default-handler .html
    AddType text/html .html

Best create the file with 000webhost's file manager, as creating (and then finding) it on the Mac is a bit tricky.

...and it works like a charm!!
