Unhappy HELP: Installed RETAIL Snow Leopard to a Macbook (Mid 2010 Unibody) and lost audio

I have recently acquired a 2nd hand Macbook (2010 Unibody) and decided to perform a clean install of Snow Leopard so that I could upgrade to Lion via the App Store.

I have borrowed a retail disk of OS X SL from a friend and have successfully performed a clean install and upon first boot up I have noticed that the audio isn't working. Checked Sound under System Preferences and It seems that I don't have a correctly installed driver for my audio device as it is grayed out.

A quick google search revealed this:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3399

What do I do now? I only have a Retail disk of SL and don't have the original Installer disks that came with the Macbook.

I am downloading the updates as of the moment and keeping my fingers crossed that this will solve the problem. I'm a bit wary though since updating isn't suggested as a fix by Apple support in the link I posted.

After the update you will also get the Mac App Store. Create an Apple account and buy Lion. It should fix your Mac. It's a 3.6 gb download.

I used a 10.6.3 Retail Disk but the build number wasn't compatible with my Macbook.

Anyways, the update fixed things. Thanks for all the helpful answers guys!

I thought you installed SL to get Lion. Why were you so bothered with getting SL to work right?

not so much as to fix the audio but he needs to update to 10.6.6 ( not sure about the exact version but higher than what he had of 10.6.3 for sure) to be able to update to LION

App Store app doesn't get installed until you upgrade to 10.6.7...

I updated to get the App Store app (and fix the audio problem). Bought Lion last night, the 12 hour download was worth it =)
