Default Encryption/Password Protection For Portable Devices

Do you use an encryption software or password access to protect the security of your data on some of your portable storage devices such as external firewire HD, flash/thumb drives, among others?

actually i'm looking for this too. to protect the data in some cds that i burn. so no, i don't use it because i haven't got it at the moment, but if anyone can lead me to something that can do this, i'd be very much obliged. have been looking for a while, too.

well i'm not sure if this is what you guys are looking for but here goes...
go to the Utilities folder then access the Disk Utility then create a New Image and have it encrypted then put ur files in there.

of course it also works to password-protect word documents, or adobe pdf files, so that when i burn them, they're password protected already. doesn't work on photographs until you make them pdf files, as far as i have tried it. but once these files have already been opened, they can be "saved as" another file name already, which defeats the purpose. someone from the old philmug once told me there is a system that one can buy for this. have looked and looked. it's out there still.

The Sandisk Micro Cruzer I recently got has some sort of encryption software pre-installed on it, but it appears that it is good only for Win operating systems. I was wondering if there's a counterpart in Mac or if I'm missing something already installed in the Mac OS X that I have yet to discover. Can anyone please give a clue or point to the right direction?

This is an interesting suggestion, but is it possible to open or un-encrypt the Mac-encrypted file using other Mac machines and on Windows when it is time to share the files?
