    Default Delicious Library

I just started using Delicious Library and now I can't stop scanning! I think the price can be lower but it's one sleek app for movie, music, and book collectors.

I hooked up my sister's Canon DV cam to try out the bar code scanning feature.

It was TOO cool. All the information, including DVD covers, downloaded from the net and into your library. This is a very tempting buy.

This is cool! This is fun!

    But...

I was really surprised how fast I ran out of books to scan. Now I know how small my book collection is.

Tried some iSight scans of my Voyager CD-Rom collection, the voice announcement said the item couldn't be identified automatically. So I type in the title and hit the search button. Search checked thru the Amazon database where multiple versions - DVD, VHS, book or Audio CD types are available. All you have to choose is the format you have, and whatever data comes along gets listed in your library.

I notice I can't change the classification but maybe this is because it's in demo mode, some of the items below should be under games and not books. I also tried Voice Search Microphone but it doesn't seem to work properly yet or maybe I was just mumbling something fairly unintelligent at 3am.

Still had to make some corrections like it just had the Publisher name and no Author names. If you're a neat freak, you can even identify which room said item resides in, and have a retail price and a current value should you want to sell the item. Seems like my Dazzeloids has doubled in value, not that I'd ever sell it.

Sometimes the cover image on the "shelf" would be missing so I'd have to google the image and drag n drop (ala Addressbook, BTW) so I'd have a visual. If not, I'd turn off Delish, start up iChat, take a snappy of myself holding up the CD cover, open in Photoshop, flip horizontal, align-crop-color correct and sharpen the image then save as jpeg. Then shut off iChat, open Delish and stick in new cover image. Whew!

But that's because you can have only 1 app running the iSight at a time, hence the workaround. There's no control on the menu yet for taking a snappy of the library item but the developer will probably add that in later versions.

This is a scary program since the family and I have tons of books, cds and stuff and I'll still be archiving night and day till I keel over from exhaustion. Keep this app away from OC people unless you have a librarian employee.

Also why does Amazon have the dibs on the search database and not the Library of Congress? Smart move! I smell a profitable partnership...

You can tag people in your address book on who borrowed what and when (syncd to iCal too!), at the rate we are all building libraries. Cool integration using Mac OS 10.3 folks! So far they don't plan to port this to windoze since "Also, we don't like Windows very much." Yay!

All the more to buy this app to support continued development. Do read the company profile and get blown away. Super cool app, try the demo, get hooked... must... buy!!! We loves its! arty:

In the details menu drag the image in the dotted box on the left of the title and author boxes.

There's an article in Wired on Delicious Monster, the developers of Delicious Library. They work out of a coffee house. How's that for a case study on the mobile office.
