awesome tip for speeding up firefox

here's an awesome couple of tips from the powerpage that speeds up firefox on broadband. i did it and it really works! (just make sure you do exactly as the instructions state--no guarantees it'll work for you, but tell me how you fare.)

Speed FireFox, Enable Autofill

TIP #1
Forevergeek.com has a useful guide on speeding up Firefox for broadband users. basically after getting to the hidden config settings you set the browser to request more data that it usually does.
1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!
TIP #2
Turn on inline autocomplete in Firefox:
1. Enter about:config in the URL field
2. Right-click on the page and create a new Boolean value
3. Enter browser.urlbar.autoFill as the preference name (note, case-sensitive: 'F', not 'f&#039
4. Set the value to true

I tried it out, and there does seem to be a noticeable improvement in loading time, on the PhilMUG boards, anyway.

I was reading your tip closely and noted that it originated from a website called forevergeek.com ... I checked it out and was chuckling at a post on the forevergeek site about Googling for unsecured video cameras on the web.

hmmmm...am I the only one sticking it out with Safari? Slightly off topic, I'm quite annoyed with the scrolling of firefox. It's quite choppy!

You could try enabling "smooth scrolling" in the advanced preferences, though personally I hardly see a difference :beer:

I still prefer Firefox to Safari though.
