Time Capsule Configuration
Hi All!
I'm not sure if this is where it is supposed to be but since it has something to do with wireless connection, I put this here. Mods, please feel free to move it if there is a more appropriate section for this.
My boss bought a Time Capsule to replace one of our older back up storage units and he wants for everyone to be able to use the unit but not see the other users. Meaning, if we all can back up to it, we have our individual folders or something but the others cannot access them or something like that.
I checked out the instruction manual and it only shows you how everyone can access the Time Capsule and the internet plus how to have eveyone back up to it but there was nothing on securing it.
Has anyone done this before? I'd really appreciate the assistance.
Thanks.

Re: Time Capsule Configuration
As far as I know, multiple Macs can backup to a single Time Capsule and it creates separate, distinct sparse image files for each machine. I believe it is also encrypted by default so that a user can only access his own backup.
Hope this helps.

Re: Time Capsule Configuration
Thank you Clarice, while this is true, my boss has kind of a different set up in mind.
Rather than a full system or data back up, it would be sort of a repository of files and what not.
But I will bring up this option with him later to see if it is OK with him.
By the way, we are a mixed platform set up here at the office, some have Macs, some have XP machines, and a few (like myself) on Ubuntu (Linux).
Thanks again.
Keep 'em coming!

Re: Time Capsule Configuration
If it's not going to be used for a system backup, why not equip the server with a high capacity drive or have a networked drive for file repository purpose?
It might be a lot cheaper than buying a Time Capsule and more versatile.

Re: Time Capsule Configuration
Hi rafaelc378,
The boss already bought the time capsule (2TB) and is already using it. He just wants to maximize it by having other try and put stuff on it too for back up purposes.
We currently also have 2 synology back up units that are being disinfected as they are both crawling with viruses at the moment. Almost done cleaning them up though.
Since I am using Linux, I can see and access the time capsule but I'm not sure how the users on XP will pull that off.
In any case, if it is not really possible, I will just inform the boss as such and limit the use of the time capsule for Mac and Linux users only.
Thanks.

Re: Time Capsule Configuration
Use Airport Utility to set up Accounts (Select 'With accounts'). Each user will have his/her own folder which is only visible to the owner. Note that the Admin user can see all folders.

Hi natsgo,
This seems to be the solution we are looking for! Thanks!
This will work irregardless of OS used right?
