Problem with Internet Sharing Via Airport
Hey guys! Hope you could help me out. Tonight, i tried sharing my internet connection (from my Ethernet) via Airport to my friends Vaio Laptop. But my friend could not see my shared network name (havent configured any password, etc; just activated internet sharing). I also noticed that my airport menubar icon, when i activated sharing, doesn't change to the one with an "upward arrow" symbol. Havent had a problem like this in the past as i could readily share my internet connection with my friends laptop as soon as i activated internet sharing.
No problems though when i scan and connect wirelessly to a hotspot. In fact, even when i activated internet sharing, my airport continues to scan and find available wireless hotspots.
Hope you could help me out.
Thanks a lot!
Edit: Noticed that my airport menubar icon changes into the one with the "upward arrow symbol" BUT only for a split second and then it turns back to the normal "signal" icon again.

have you tried restarting your mac? this method usually fixes my airport problems sometimes.

Re: Problem with Internet Sharing Via Airport
@manny: I haven't been able to using the onboard airport of my macbook. I don't think you can since I think you can't share (set up your own network for sharing) while being connected to another network at the same time.

Re: Problem with Internet Sharing Via Airport
hehe.. ok..
Actually I was siphoning off my neighbor's unsecured wifi signal (it wasn't intentional, I just detected it one time, promise!), the catch is I'm confined to a specific space in my room to get the signal, moving away from that area and the connection is gone. I wanted to try my Wii to access internet, but it is off the grid, so I thought internet sharing will do the trick, like airport express amplifying the signal to broadcast to other location, but thru my macbook's airport. I guess I have to reposition my Wii to catch that signal. Btw, I just think that I'm in a public wifi zone to lessen the guilt. hehe..

Re: Problem with Internet Sharing Via Airport
You can either use a wifi dongle and bridge your internet connection from a wifi source. Or you can get an Airport Express or an AEBS to extend wifi. However you may be creating infrastructure for a service that in all likelihood will be secured soon.
