How strong is the signal of airport base extreme?
Hi! I would like to set up wifi enough for 2 floors, the ground floor is a restaurant while the second floor is pretty wide, anyhow it's a residencial on second floor. I am looking for a good router with a strong signal. I like the one that prices 8k, or any of you think I should go for the 14k ones? I Am not pretty good with English pls excuse me if you encounter any grammatical error. Thank you!

It depends on the layout. It might be cheaper and more effective if you get 2-3 wifi routers and run a cable to connect them or use a repeater. There are really a lot of options.

I think one airport extreme will suffice provided that it is at the center of the house, if not then use a repeater or pair up your airport extrem with an airport express so you can have a wider coverage.

airport extreme will suffice your needs, just to be sure that you buy the newer version (801.11 n and simultaneous dual-band)

Depends on floor area, wall layout, floor and wall thickness. Every time the signal goes through a wall it gets weaker. In my experience, 1 wall or floor in between the router and Mac is ideal. IF you have or can borrow another Mac, you can test your establishment with a simple adhoc connection betweens the two machines. Go to different areas of the place and leave one Mac in your desired router location.

Always position the Wi-Fi Router or Air Port Router above as much as possible so that signal will be much wider coverage.
The signal waves of Wifi routers amplifies downwards not upwards this are based from what my technicians said to me.
Let say your main router will be on 2nd floor then the repeater just right above 1st floor to maximize the signal coverage.
I think you can try to have one Wifi - Router wireless 801.11 n first it might enough for your needs just placed it on second floor the highest place you could possibly put it.
Then if its not enough buy a repeater place it right after the second floor,Which you can place it in higher possible your 1st floor can the repeater be set up and as much as possible in a open space.
To tell you my Wi-Fi router was in the 1st floor and my wall here quite thick with only a meter wide open space but the signal was reaching through our second floor not only that with our rooms closed and no repeater.
It was contrary what my technicians says but good for us.
Just imagine my router is just the cheap Linksys Wireless G cost 1,900K Php to 2,200,K Php.
Hope this helps.
It gives the right functionality that we needs for far.

I recommend two routers/access points per floor. Repeaters in areas with large spaces with distance from routers/access points to be 30-40 meters. Try using non-stock antennas that boost signals as well.
Lastly, don't forget the channels and frequencies you will be using. Will affect how you can penetrate walls, doors, ceilings. If you want maximum compatibility with devices, you will have to trade off some features of the latest generation routers/access points.

Skint, after a long explanation on having the router at highest possible place, how come your router is on the 1st floor? My AEBS is on the ist floor too and it reaches all rooms of our 2 storey house (180sqm) with mezzanine. I also get my wifi signal from a restaurant across our street.

Should it be 802.11n? not 801. Anyways, AEBS is just enough. I have a Linksys at the 1st floor and it reaches even our 3rd floor. The fact is, Macs I think have the best wireless in them. I compared this to my PC (Lenovo), and the signal fluctuates already at the 2nd floor. Full bars when I use my MBP. If you're using a mac notebook, its just fine.
Here's my signal at the 2nd floor:

We cannot find a proper place to set up on our second floor since there are so many obstacle to get way in and connecting 3 other computer desktops which my mom preferred the computers all in the 1st floor.
My technician told that its the proper set up for most WIFI routers to maximized the field of signal.
Well it works on bought of us it doesn't matter naman.
As long it serves the purpose of functionality besides its rarely on us surfing wirelessly on the 2nd floor.
My technician just telling the proper set up of the router but not arbitrary rule its just an ideal place to set up a WiFI routers in home and in office.
If the ideal set up are not feasible like in our case don't do it just set up the way you want it.
