    Unhappy Help with Linksys wrt54g2

I just bought a Linksys wrt54g2 last night and installed it today, with a Bayan DSL connection. I have two questions though:

    1) the instructions stipulate connecting the a computer and the router using an ethernet line (the blue wire). During set up, I used my macbook to configure the linksys, then I disconnected the ethernet line from the router's port. I almost expected it not to work, but to my surprise, it did. During this time, I also used my sister's HP laptop to connect and it worked fine. But after disconnecting the ethernet line from the router's port, only my macbook was able to connect.

So I connected the HP to the router using the ethernet line. And it worked. My question is, can I do something so I can disconnect the HP from the router and still make it work? After all, I bought the router so we can be wireless.

    2) I've read about "flashing" the router so it can give you better results. Can anyone offer help as to how I can do this? My unit's firmware version is 1.0.01. I've searched the net but all of the instructions are laden with jargon a newbie like me wouldn't understand.

Sorry for these questions. I really hope you can help me out. TIA!

yes i think the main reason of buying a wireless router is to use the internet wirelessly without connecting any wire to your computer.

im not sure with this.. but did bayan dsl provide any modem for you to use? if yes then connect the blue ethernet wire to both your modem and the "internet" slot at the back of the wireless router. that should work cos thats how our modem and wireless router looks like and its working fine! hope that helps!

they did, and the blue wire is connected to the modem and the internet slot of the router. But I still have to connect another blue wire from the HP to the "1" slot at the back of the router. Whenever I remove it, the connection gets disrupted until I connect it again.

Your DSL modem may be in router mode. Try attaching the LAN cable from the DSL modem to any of the 4 LAN ports on the router, not the WAN port. See if that works.

That didn't work either. In fact, all of the laptops got disconnected when I attached the LAN cable from the DSL modem to the LAN port on the router.

Bayan DSL uses PPPoE Connection.. You have to enter the username and password in the router's setup page, not on your macbook.. I had that same problem before.. Now I can connect my Compaq Presario and Macbook wirelessly..

How do I do this? Do I insert the CD installer again?

if you're using the default settings on your router, access it using your web browser at:

    192.168.1.1

if it didn't work, try this address instead: 192.168.0.1

You should see the linksys web interface to configure your router.

default logins (AFAIK) are all the same with all linksys routers try

Thanks. Did that already pero ganun pa rin. I wonder what's wrong. Another windows computer is connected wirelessly and there's no problem with it. Kailangan lang talaga ng computer na connected sa LAN for it to work. This is getting frustrating. :/

That's weird man. Try to reset the router first to its default settings and start over, that might help.
