Fiber To The x (FTTx) discussions (renamed from PLDT's FTTH)
LDT to offer FTTH in 2009
Filipino incumbent Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has revealed plans to offer fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) internet services this year, in what it claims will be the most advanced platform for residential broadband in the country. The fibre-optic network will effectively replace legacy copper wire infrastructure with initial tests showing that PLDT’s FTTH network will offer speeds of up to 94.86Mbps (downlink) and 69.39Mbps (uplink). ‘The new platform will be able to deliver simultaneously voice, video and data services at much higher speeds and larger capacities than DSL or cable technologies,’ it said in a statement. FTTH will initially be targeted at high-bandwidth residential customers with pilot trials already under way in parts of Bonifacio Global City, Forbes Park, Urdaneta Village, Ayala Alabang, Dasmariñas Village, Wack Wack, Ayala Heights, Valle Verde and certain areas covered by PLDT Subictel and PLDT Clarktel.

The problem I foresee is... assuming near capacity usage you could fill up a 1TB drive in 27 hours. 720p content anyone?

Hmmm... That's why they upgraded our lines into fiber optic ones... has potential to burn a hole in our pockets...

what would be the monthly price tag for this? 5k/mo? 10k/mo?
unless other ISPs also provide this kind of technology, PLDT will monopolize the market and the price tag will be too high for the middle class residential internet users.
But this would be great for internet cafes, though..

don't forget PLDT's favorite keywords of "UP TO ... speeds"

note that downlink and uplink speeds would always be a catchphrase marketing folks abuse. It may mean those speeds will only be within the PLDT network (wide-area network) that connects all homes but not the actual internet connection speed.
