Question Can't Access Router's LAN IP Address

I have a Linksys WRT120N router which was working perfectly fine yesterday. Then, I gave it to my brother so that he could connect it his digitel dsl because my connection goes on and off. I don't know what happened but when we tried to connect it to his pc, we can't seem to access the ip address via web browser (firefox). I tried to configure it through my mb and I also couldn't access it. Safari shows the following error: "Safari can’t open the page “http://192.168.1.1/” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding."

I've tried resetting the device but to no avail. However, when I use the router as a wired router, it works. I can still access the internet (like now). When I use the router wirelessly via ipad, I can also connect. I just have to configure the static ip address for both.

Unfortunately, since my brother's connection and my connection both have static ip addresses, we need to configure it in order to share wireless without having our own static ip per connection. What I used to do was to configure the router so that it can share the internet through dhcp (not sure of the term, but using dynamic ip addresses) so that other family members can access my internet. Since I've reset my router, I cannot configure to my old settings. What should I do?

    Please help.

It sounds like the router did not reset. The manual says to press the reset button for five seconds, which should bring back the default settings.

The manual is available on the Cisco website here

If you are still having trouble, try this solution.

I haven't tried this one myself, but it is used to do a firmware update to the router, which will also reset everything.

Good luck and let us know how things work out.

I think it did because my router name reverted back to linksys. Thanks for the input on the cisco website. I couldn't access the link though but I was able to search for it.

At one point we tried to configure it via wifi. Supposedly for initial set up, it's supposed to be wired. Technically though it wasn't my first set up but then since i did a reset on the router, I'm not sure if it was considered as an initial set up. Surprisingly, I was able to configure it but when we attached the internet connection, it still did not work.

Then I tried setting it up from the installer from cisco, I think that did the trick. I was able to configure my connection again. I have yet to try on my brother's dsl. Tomorrow I'd try it. Hopefully, it should still work.

I also tried accessing my router using safari and i can't connect, but when i tried chrome i was able to.

I tried using chrome via pc but i did not work I was going to try it using mac but I downloaded chrome at the same time i downloaded the installer from cisco. Luckily, the cisco thing worked. If it hadn't I would have tried this too. Thanks

I tried connecting it again to the digitel dsl but it still did not work even though i was able to configure the router based on the information given to me by the digitel tech guy. I must have missed a step or a setting. Anyway, i decided to put the router elsewhere. I guess my brother can enjoy his connection all to himself

How's your router connected to the internet? DSL Modem+ Linksys router? You may check the modems internal IP if it was set to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

I think for the digitel dsl it's 192.168.1.1 because my brother was asking me whether that would cause a conflict. Would it? How do i check?
