Beware of Side-Jacking (wifi)

Hey guys,

I was so happy about SM City Manila finally getting wifi . . . until I got a "sidejack" attack yesterday. The hacker got in my gmail account and erased every single message. He also sent bastos messages to a friend of mine via gmail chat.

I guess I'm still quite naive when it comes to internet security.

Scary... I know a bishop whose e-mail account was hacked and people in his address book apparently received an e-mail from him asking for money. Good thing it wasn't usual for him to beg for money so that his contacts tried to confirm if his e-mail was really true.

Some people are really corrupted nowadays...

the guy in the video used a PC, how do we take similar precautions for our macs?

Make sure you are accessing gmail via https.

Also, in your Gmail account settings under the General tab, scroll to the bottom and enable "Always use https" in "Browser connection".

trying to find out if there is a ferret and hamster for mac. will try to do some side jacking within my network to see if some apps in my iphone esp facebook app and iPhone mail can be side jacked.

i think the hack is data centric and not platform oriented, Ana. When browsing sensitive data on a public connection try to make sure you have an encrypted connection;...usually you'll see a padlock icon on the address bar to notify you that the website is secure.
