PSP2 already has a built-in gamer audience. Social games are a hit for those with little-to-no gamer experience, which is exactly what apple was gunning for, and why it was so successful

Besides, Sony has the playstation suite up its sleeve. It has access to THOUSANDS of android games, and there will definitely be social games there.

But then again, 99% of the psp2 buyers wont be buying it for social games. Why will i buy a quadcore psp2 to play farmville?

i think some of you confused social with casual. not all social games are casual. world of warcraft is social (the concept of guild, virtual goods, currencies, communications, etc. are inherently social), but it isn't casual.

console games are sold for about $50. social MMOGs like WOW command about $15 subscription per month. would your rather develop for a console that is sold once (that's if it's even legit) or earn recurring revenue? yes, the market for consoles and stand-alone games will continue to exist, but the industry has clearly shifted. developers will increasingly favor volume (cheap mobile apps) and recurring revenue (subscriptions) over pirate-friendly console games.

psp2 will, no doubt, sell. but after nintendo trounced sony by leveraging gameplay in the DS and the Wii, you'd think sony would learn and innovate. instead, psp2 seems to have been plucked right out of the same specs-is-everything playbook of ps3--which i am sure makes gamers giddy. but will psp2 surpass psp unit sales? the irony may be that it does because of android.

As I child of the 80s Atari/PacMan/Moon Cresta generation, I'm not into social gaming. I don't think I ever will be. Its just between me and the computer.

So if ever i get the PSP2, its to play by my lonesome.

Even if everyone else is playing with other people. I'm old school that way.

I'd rather play classic super mario, TMNT, pacman, and other old school games, and maybe NBA 2k11, than multiplayer online games. It's the way i'm used to, that's why I don't really get addicted to starcraft or halo or any other PC based online games. Well, except for counter strike.

@Theus: Tama ka, sana nga pasko na..2 great gifts coming on that season for me. hehe..Make that 3, I want a smaller MBA (13 switching to 11) which HAS an SD slot.
