    Default Google Tablet (Nexus 7)

Expected to be announced in this year's Google I/O...

    from The Verge:

Alleged specs and image of the Nexus 7 tablet leak out ahead of Google I/O | The Verge

We're just a few days away from the start of Google I/O, and as such we're starting to hear more and more rumors about what's planned. Google has already leaked out details on the name of forthcoming Android update, and now Gizmodo Australia has allegedly received a "training document" that details the exact specs and cost of the long-rumored Nexus 7 tablet. As we heard before, this tablet appears to be an Asus product — specs include a 1280 x 800, 7-inch display, 1.3GHz Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 12-core GeForce GPU. It's also reportedly priced very aggressively — the 8GB version will come in at $199, with a 16GB version available for $249.

Seems like they're targeting the market of Kindle for this one. It will be successful if the rumored prices and specs are true.

mmm....if those rumors are true.....wow....that's underwhelming. It reminds me of Chromebooks.....remember those? So, is this the Chromebook of Android tablets?? Disappointing. And it is aimed squarely against the most successful Android tablet so far: the Kindle Fire. Wrong target.

its actually a good market to target. No way they can topple the iPad, but with the kindle fire, they do stand a chance, especially with those kind of specs and price point. I know many people in other forums bought the kindle fire to convert it into an android tablet. Even the "Ainol" tablet is selling like hotcakes here in manila with its 7k- 8k price... with the "nexus" there's no converting needed, not to mention getting direct upgrades from Google

the specs are price point are very compelling. always first in line for OS updates, google's tablet will attain plenty of mileage.

slightly better in specs than samsung's tab 7.7 at half the price, sans telephony.

So this is the Asus tablet project unveiled last year rebranded by Google? I'd buy one if the battery life's good with those specs, price and Google support.

    totally agree with you

I have an iPad and if this device is priced correctly, I'm definitely buying one.

Google Play, Gmail, Google Docs and Maps in a 7 inch screen is perfect!

Success of this device will all depend on price and availability date

What do you guys think of the Nexus 7? I'm pretty interested given it's price, and might as well give the android platform a second opinion. $199 for 8gb and $249 for 16gb (no memory card slot though).
Comes with their latest Jellybean OS.

    Specs:

    1280x800 HD ips screen
    Tegra 3 Quad-core processor
    1.2 Megapixel Front-facing camera
    Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & NFC
    9 hrs HD video
    340 grams

Google Nexus 7 official: $199 tablet from Asus ships mid-July with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean | The Verge

Google Nexus 7 vs. Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet, and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

The Nexus 7 has the specs advantage when it comes to its processor, featuring a quad-core Tegra 3 — the first 7-inch tablet to do so. Google is also shipping the Nexus 7 complete with the company's new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, making it the most up-to-date 7-inch Android tablet out there. There's also a 1.2-megapixel front camera, which places it ahead of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0's offering, but there's no rear camera on the Nexus 7 — so if you use a tablet to take photos then you'll be disappointed. Unlike the rest of the 7-inch competitors, the Nexus 7 includes NFC support — but a lack of 3G connection means you'll have to use Wi-Fi to get connectivity on this particular tablet. There's an option for 8GB or 16GB, but at $199 for the base model it's clear that the Nexus 7 will be a popular choice for budget tablet shoppers this summer.
