    Default umbrella icon

    hello everyone
    got my mac last december
its a mbp 15, the entry level spec for the 15
i have been using it everyday
i like the way it looks it's lovely and the illuminating keypad helps a lot
the thing is i have been seeing the rainbow colored umbrella most of the time while just browsing the net on safari. never a day that it did not happen, i have 6 tabs open at the same time and no video going through it just mostly forums, internet connection is pretty decent as 860kbps
and it is really bugging me and i thought maybe its normal and it happens to your macs as well,
and when it appears i can't seem to access anything else i have to wait a couple of seconds before it works again, is it hanging? i refuse to believe that it does because its a pretty decent spec having 4gb of ddr3 and an i5 processor for it to be hanging just browsin the web. is this normal or my month old mbp is acting up or i got a lemon or i did something wrong?
among other little things that is starting to bother me with my mbp
theres this transformer like sound when it gets the cd in the drive
and an audible noise coming from inside that sounds like soemthings rattling or a little typewriter inside. would really appreciate feedbacks or similar situations and how you resolved it.

It's a spinning beach ball, not an umbrella. and it's kind of normal when you open multiple applications or tabs within applications for the ball to appear. Probably best though to check if your machine's software is up-to-date.

it could be because of the flash plugins on safari...they don't really go well together...you may try updating flash or use a different browser (chrome, firefox, etc)

Hi, try emptying your Cache. Also, clean up your desktop as this eats up your RAM also.

Have you tried to look at Menu Meters? It monitors your RAM usage, internet traffic and HD usage. I have been using this for years and has been one of my useful apps. It's free by the way.

I totally agree on this. There's even instructions on the net for uninstalling flash plug-in on safari. The new MBA's doesn't have the flash plug-in installed by default. Use Chrome if you want to access flash content.

The cd is drawn in by a motor. After it is drawn in the cd is popped unto a spindle with a plastic against rubber thump. This can make considerable noise but is regarded as normal.

Have your Mac inspected by an Apple service center. That rattling sound can be nothing or the start of something really bad.

Have that beach ball inspected too. It is not normal. Beach balls normally indicate that the Mac is trying to access or perform something but for some reason needs a little bit more time. This could ba lack of memory or data corruption.

If flash is causing the spinning beach ball, one alternative is use click-to-flash. . For the rattling sound, have your mac checked in an Apple service center as suggested by madmac

@jb6g, no need to uninstall Flash. As AlexG mentioned, simply install Click-To-Flash. Click-To-Flash will keep Flash portions of the web page from loading, but you can always choose to load the Flash portion by clicking on it. I've seen a huge improvement in speed and reliability of Safari after installing Click-To-Flash (I use Chrome as my primary browser though).
