Default new macbook pro 13" i5

i just recently bought my first macbook pro.. and i noticed that the time remaining for the battery when i remove the power source, is just 3 hrs(supposed to be 7hrs). im a bit concerned. but i think it is just normal ryt? havent really used the battery as of the moment(charge cycle is still one) haha. does it really last 7 hrs especially when doing extensive work?

Any answers will be helpful. I don't know why i am always concerned with batteries ever since.. also with my previous laptop.

    Welcome to philmug.

You will need to calibrate your mbp in order to show a more accurate value. Use google for that. Or use the search function of the forum to look for topics regarding battery and charging.

the 7 hours claim by apple is highly dependent on a lot of things like brightness level of the lcd, the programs that are running, etc

    +1 on this.

@tomangelo, try to lower the brightness of your lcd and turn off bluetooth (and airport, if not used). You will see that the "hours remaining" will definitely increase

    Thanks guys..

another question.. how do i check if the hardware parts of my laptop are still working at perfect condition? I tried installing a game (Battlefield) which i knew requires high specs to run so i just tried it. the Macbook Pro wasn't able to run it, so it froze and there was a long beep sound. What does that mean? So what i did was just did a forced shutdown. Is this still ok?
