more than 4GB?
hi guys,
i have a Macbook White (mid-2010). Currently, it has 2GB (2 x 1GB SO-DIMMs) of memory but the specs on the mac site state that it can support up to 4GB.
i've been googling and have found that you can certainly put in 8GB (2 x 4GB SO-DIMMs) but it would supposedly just make use of the 4GB only and disregarding the remaining memory which makes for a huge waste of money.
im planning to upgrade it so im wondering: can it support and MAKE USE of more than 4GB? say, 8GB?
PS. Also, if anyone can point to a reliable place to buy RAM or anyone who is selling, it would be appreciated.
thanks.

more than 4GB?
There is a thread here already discussing about that.. You can search for it.
As far as i understand, there is a secret firmware update (yes, it's secret
) release by apple to enable a macbook support 8gb ram. You can verify yours if that's included.

Re: more than 4GB?
Please check here www.everymac,com. It will support 8GB of RAM. Just a question, why do you need to upgrade it that much. i believe 8GB of RAM will cost you. If you're in graphics I think 4GB would be enough.

Thanks. Still new here.
Forgive the question but where would I get this secret firmware update? And any hardware suggestions?

going 8GB (if your Mac supports it) would be a wise move.
Why?
Because 4GB DDR3 RAMs (2X2GB) costs around 3K... and an 8GB DDR3 kit (2X4GB) costs 4K... so the difference of only 1000 pesos, is really worth it!
I would agree though that 4GB is enough on graphics editing, that is - if that's the only program you're running... we can say it's "pwede na"
Needless to say, 8GB is really better.... and on heavy tasks, you'll really feel the difference.

Agreed. Economics of scale has reached to a point where 8Gb of RAM is actually so affordable now that it very wise to upgrade if you can.
