Is it limited to JPEG files only?

you should really post for info like, what OS version you are using, apps you use to open/view the image, etc.. etc..

Re: JPEG files from external drive (WD)
what message do you see when you open jpg files and do you use preview to open the files? Sometimes I can't open jpgs in Photoshop but can open them in Previews and then after saving them they can be opened in PSD

Re: JPEG files from external drive (WD)
THANKS MUCH guys...appreciate this.
I am using Mac OS X V10.6.4 & trying to open the jpeg files via iphoto but when I connect the passport, the jpeg files are shown in .exe format.
I have movies though saved in the passport & I am able to play it successfully via VLC.
Another thing, when i connect the passport to a desktop PC (Windows OS), i am able to open the jpeg files.....
still need your help guys...Thanks!

is iPhoto you're preferred app to open the .jpg file? try opening it in preview, right(cmd)+click on the file, select open with, select preview.
you can also try this, right(cmd)+click on the .jpg file, choose get info, you'll see a open with pull down menu, then select iPhoto or any image viewing app that you want as the app of you're choice. HTH

Re: JPEG files from external drive (WD)
why would you have JPEG files in exe format?
i've had my encounter with a virus before that converted my folders into executables and hid my real folders from plain sight. the option i was left with was unhide the folders save it into a different drive and format the external drive, and clean and return my folders to the newly formatted drive.
it's not the passports fault. there must be something wrong with your OS.

Re: JPEG files from external drive (WD)

Does your jpg files like like the one in the right? if yes, OSX must not be reading the files right or OSX just screwed up your file associations.

Re: JPEG files from external drive (WD)
here's a thing to try, select and rename 1 of your jpg files from the external hd, put a .jpg extension at the end, see if that solves the problem.
